Mile High Labs Awarded Emerald Test Badges

Shopping around for test results is a well-known issue within the CBD industry and the cannabis industry as a whole. Touting >99% potency has become a popular marketing tactic, even though that may not reflect what is actually in the product. Frequently, testing is being done with methods that have not been validated for the specific product that is being tested, leading to large measurement uncertainty and wide variation in results. Last Spring, when Emerald Scientific launched their Emerald Test, an Inter-Laboratory Comparison and Proficiency Test (ILC/PT) program for cannabis and hemp testing facilities, Mile High Labs was excited to enroll to see how our methods stacked up with other labs.

In an underregulated industry, Emerald Scientific provides a valuable service of unbiased evaluation using a well-established protocol for testing found in the environmental, food, pharmaceutical, water and petrochemical industries. The Emerald Test helps establish the industry standard for cannabis and hemp testing through the participation of labs around the world.

We’re pleased to announce Mile High Labs has been awarded Emerald Badges for the following categories:

Of the 11 companies that participated, only Mile High Labs was able to meet the requirements for CBD isolate potency testing. The sample that was tested contained 92.3% CBD and our test method gave a result of 91.8% CBD, well within the +/-3% requirement. Results from other companies ranged from 72% to >99%, highlighting the prevalence of testing issues in the CBD industry.

“If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that we take analytical testing very seriously,” says Wendi Young, VP of Regulatory and Compliance. “Results like this are only achievable due to our team of dedicated chemists and their commitment to producing accurate results. We’re incredibly proud of our team and their efforts to bring more legitimacy to hemp and cannabinoid testing.”

Given the continued lack of regulation, the service provided by Emerald Scientific is a valuable step toward building confidence in the industry. “It’s simply not enough to run a published analytical method,” says Young. “You have to be able to prove that the method you’re using produces accurate results.”

When viewing test results from first and third-party labs, it’s essential to take into account the methods they use as well as the accuracy and validation of those methods. Results are only as accurate as the processes used to obtain them. An excellent way to gauge the legitimacy of a lab’s testing methods is through accreditation programs like the Emerald Test.
